The Seany Foundation Named Operating Organization of Camp Reach for the Sky by American Cancer Society

Non-profit organization to host free summer camps for children with cancer and their siblings in San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles and Ventura

SAN DIEGO--()--The Seany Foundation—a San Diego-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in memory of Sean Lewis Robins, a local teen who battled cancer—will operate Camp Reach for The Sky (CR4TS), a free summer camp for childhood cancer patients and their siblings. The American Cancer Society (ACS) had run CR4TS, a nationally-recognized program of excellence, for 32 years until 2014 when it selected The Seany Foundation to operate the camps due to the non-profit’s dedication to service and care for children and families affected by cancer. Camps are located throughout Southern California in San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles and Ventura.

CR4TS is The Seany Foundation’s largest project. Although funding cuts threaten to close down similar camps across the nation, the non-profit is committed to keeping the doors to Camp Reach for the Sky open.

“The Seany Foundation is dedicated to carrying on Camp Reach for the Sky’s life-enhancing legacy,” says Director of Pediatric Programs and Services, Robby Medina. “We strive to continually make our camps peaceful but lively places for kids and their families to simply enjoy summer; the kids are encouraged to be themselves, enjoy the outdoors, and have fun.”

Seany’s Camp Reach for the Sky is comprised of the following:

  • Resident Oncology Camp: A weeklong overnight camping adventure for children ages eight to 18 who have or have had cancer. This camp is fully equipped with medical staff and equipment to meet kids’ needs.
  • Sibling Camp: During the weeklong overnight camp, campers have the opportunity to create lifelong friendships with individuals who have had similar experiences dealing with their sibling’s pediatric cancer.
  • Day Camp: A weeklong day camp for kids with cancer and their siblings.

Camp activities include hiking, archery, and arts and crafts, but the main purpose of the camp is to provide a supportive environment for kids and their families through counsel and camaraderie of those experiencing the same hardships of cancer.

The Seany Foundation first became involved with the summer camp programs in the summer of 2012 when it funded a special section called “Seany’s Corner.” Seany’s Corner allowed campers down time to recharge their batteries before re-entering camp activities.
