Xamarin Acquires Leading Visual Studio Division From Clarius Consulting

Acquisition Adds Deep Visual Studio Expertise to Enhance Xamarin’s Developer Platform

SAN FRANCISCO & BUENOS AIRES, Argentina--()--Xamarin, the company that empowers more than 600,000 developers to build fully native mobile apps for all major device platforms in Visual Studio, today announced the acquisition of the Visual Studio Division of Clarius Consulting. Xamarin is the only platform that enables developers to build native iOS, Android and Windows apps in C# and Visual Studio, an IDE used by over six million developers worldwide. The acquisition strengthens the company’s position in bridging one of the largest developer communities in the world with the billions of mobile devices in use today.

Clarius Consulting has worked as a vendor for Microsoft since 2004, and has developed extensions for all major versions of Visual Studio since Visual Studio 2003 for major clients around the world, including their largest customer, Microsoft. The popularity of some of the company’s extensions, such as the “Default Browser Switcher,” have influenced the Visual Studio roadmap, with similar features incorporated into subsequent product releases by Microsoft.

“We are making it possible for millions of Visual Studio users to become mobile developers virtually overnight,” said Nat Friedman, CEO and co-founder of Xamarin. “The Visual Studio expertise and world-class talent from Clarius will help our developers go mobile quickly and successfully.”

“Within the Visual Studio Division of Clarius, we made significant improvements in Visual Studio for Microsoft and many other enterprise customers,” said Victor Aprea Garcia, co-founder and CEO of Clarius Consulting. “Joining Xamarin will allow us to make positive impact on millions of developers who want to build mobile apps in their favorite IDE.”

“Our mission at Xamarin is not only to delight C# and current Visual Studio developers,” said Daniel Cazzulino, co-founder of Clarius Consulting. “We also want to delight Java and Objective-C developers, by making Xamarin the best mobile development platform on Windows, period.”

In November 2013, Xamarin and Microsoft announced a partnership, joining forces on technical and customer programs to make Visual Studio and Xamarin the best environment for native app development for multiple programs. The partnership includes a technical collaboration to better integrate Xamarin technology with Microsoft developer tools and services, such as Portable Class Libraries and async. Xamarin is a Visual Studio Integration Partner (VSIP), winning the VSIP Partner of the Year Award in 2013.

Today, Xamarin also announced the availability of the Xamarin Designer for iOS, integrated into both Visual Studio and Xamarin Studio, as part of the Xamarin 3 release. This powerful alternative to Apple’s Xcode Interface Builder is especially significant for Visual Studio developers as they can now design and develop iOS apps in Visual Studio on Windows, accelerating their workflow while leveraging existing skills and tools investments. The Xamarin Designer for iOS complements the Xamarin Designer for Android already integrated into Visual Studio.
