FirstFuel Joins Group of Industry Energy Leaders to Drive General Services Administration’s Green Button Connect My Data Pilot Program

Advanced Data Analytics Playing Increasing Role in Supporting Federal Leadership in Energy Management

LEXINGTON, Mass.--()--FirstFuel Software, the trusted source of energy use intelligence, today announced its participation in the first-ever pilot program to standardize Green Button Connect My Data across federal agencies. Working in conjunction with Schneider Electric, The Potomac Electric Power Company (PEPCO) and The General Services Administration (GSA), FirstFuel will now be analyzing ongoing meter data from the GSA’s portfolio of covered facilities in Green Button Connect format, which it will utilize to help drive large-scale efficiency in the federal sector.

This strategic initiative follows a December 2013 Presidential Memorandum, which instructed federal agencies to incorporate the Green Button data standard in their energy-management practices. The General Services Administration is in a unique position to take a leading role in this effort. Across the past three years, the GSA’s Advanced Metering Program has resulted in a wealth of new data on the energy performance of some of the nation’s largest buildings.

FirstFuel’s third-party data analytics provide a unique and strategic opportunity to extract more value from this utility-metered electric data infrastructure. Since 2012, FirstFuel has conducted remote audits on over 100 GSA buildings, uncovering nearly $16 million in total energy savings across 54 million square feet of commercial property. FirstFuel’s platform also provides ongoing remote monitoring of energy performance at a whole building-level, which helps to engage facility managers on the impact of their efficiency actions over time. As of April 2014, the FirstFuel platform has recorded an aggregate energy savings of over $5 million dollars and will eventually be monitoring and tracking nearly 10 million annual usage data points from GSA buildings through the Green Button Connect format.

GSA is committed to supporting the President’s green goals,” said GSA Administrator Dan Tangherlini. “Creating a more sustainable government is vital to GSA’s mission and drives the agency’s priorities. Adopting Green Button technology across our real estate portfolio allows us to improve building performance and save taxpayer dollars.”

“FirstFuel remains committed to supporting The General Services Administration, the Office of Science and Technology Policy, and others in the support of reducing energy usage in a systematic and cost-effective manner,” said FirstFuel CEO Swap Shah. “This pilot program demonstrates the power of strong public-private collaboration, and has the opportunity to drive more sophisticated data analysis and insights for the GSA and other federal agencies for years to come.”

FirstFuel CEO Swap Shah will be addressing over 500 attendees at today's 2nd Annual White House Energy Datapalooza, shedding light on how data is helping tackle some of our nation's most important energy challenges.
