CryoXtract Announces the Integration of Its CXT750 System into France’s National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) for Use in Important Human Gut Microbiome Research

  • INRA purchased two CXT750s to perform a key reformatting process within their newly established Gut Microbiome sample workflow. These systems will allow fully automated aliquotting of frozen fecal samples stored in a standardized and efficient protocol developed by INRA.

WOBURN, Mass.--()--CryoXtract Instruments LLC, a provider of automated frozen aliquotting systems for high-value frozen biosamples (e.g., biofluids, tissue and stool), is pleased to announce that France’s National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA), one of the industry research leaders within the global human gut microbiome initiative, has integrated two CXT750 frozen biosample aliquotters into its new lab facility in Jouy-en-Josas, Cedex, France.

The fully automated CXT750 system enables a reformatting of biologically relevant frozen fecal samples from collection containers into automation-friendly cryovials, which will be stored in INRA’s biobank. By maintaining fecal samples in a frozen state at -80˚C, and thereby eliminating freeze-thaw cycling, the in vivo profile of the microbiome is preserved. The process also preserves the integrity of the original parent sample for future use, streamlines sample processing, and increases lab efficiency through the automated, hands-free operation of sample tube management, sample coring, frozen aliquot dispensing and reusable coring probe cleaning.

INRA, a public research institution under the joint authority of the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, is at the forefront of research into the human gut microbiome based on the establishment of its biobank for use in cataloguing the genes found in the microbiome.

“CryoXtract is pleased to work with global industry leaders like INRA in support of the advancement of their important research, as well as the development of industry best-practices through the application of our frozen aliquotting systems,” said John McCarthy, Chief Executive Officer of CryoXtract.

For the frozen fecal aliquotting process, the company’s CXT750 system allows scientists to work with raw or suspended frozen samples, and to do so throughout the entire Bristol Stool Scale. The system can be easily customized for various collection containers, utilizing an operator-friendly process that helps to avoid unpleasant odor. The CXT750 systems purchased by INRA represent the same system that was granted an Outstanding New Product Award in 2012 by the International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER).
