DAYTON, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As part of the Youth Energy Celebration, hosted by the Ohio Energy Project (OEP), Dayton Power and Light (DP&L) was honored for its 25 year commitment to energy efficiency education.
Debby Yerkes, Ohio Energy Project Executive Director said, “DP&L has a strong tradition of leadership, service and contributions to the communities they serve. For many years, DP&L sponsored OEP’s programs in western Ohio. We appreciate their commitment to energy efficiency education.”
Each year, DP&L teams with Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio, Inc. (Vectren) to hold an Energy Fair teaching young people about energy efficiency through hands-on sessions that allow high school students to mentor their younger counterparts.
In addition, DP&L has sponsored the Be E3 Smart energy efficiency program since 2009. As a result, 40,325 energy efficiency kits have been sent home through the classroom. And this is the second year DP&L is supporting the AEGIS Energy Bike building program.
Held in Columbus today on The Ohio State University campus, two area teachers were honored for their participation in the program and three area students were presented with 2014 DP&L and Vectren Energy Leadership Scholarships.
Jill Weaver of Valley View Junior High received the DP&L Teacher Award 2014 and Leslie Mosley of Bethel Junior High School was the recipient of the Vectren Teacher Award 2014. Both have participated in OEP programs.
The first 2014 DP&L and Vectren Leadership Scholarships were presented to Bradshaw Terrace of West Carrollton High School, Thomas Lane of Oakwood High School and Morgan Nash of Carroll High School. Each student will receive $1,000 towards college expenses. Terrace plans to attend Miami University and study International/Environmental Relations. Lane will attend either Case Western Reserve University or The Ohio State University and major in Engineering. Nash will major in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Dayton.
