MIAMI BEACH, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The 2014 La Martina Miami Beach Polo World Cup X, the world’s largest and most prestigious Beach Polo competition, culminated on Sunday, April 27th with an exciting men’s final that marked the tournament’s Ten Year Anniversary, a decade of world class cavalry and social fun in the sun.
Fifty-two chukkers of Polo on the beach ended with a flourish on Sunday afternoon as the Yellow Cab team representing Russia (Tyler Garber, Tavi Usandizaga and Sebastian Merlos) scooped an impressive 12-5 win over The Raleigh team representing Pakistan. Yellow Cab/SLS Jets patron Simon V. Garber couldn’t have been happier with his team’s win or more proud watching Tyler, 15, one of his three polo playing sons.
Like many successful entrepreneurs Mr. Garber has found an exciting way to spend his leisure time. During his many travels worldwide he became fascinated with the edgy and dangerous game of polo. In 1997, he started his own polo team, Yellow Cab/SLS Jets, that travels throughout the United States and Argentina.
The Yellow Cab team is named in honor of Garber’s taxi cab empire, which represents the largest independently owned and operated taxi fleet in North America. Simon was named Taxicab Operator of the Year in 2008, a prestigious national award by the industry’s leading organization, the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association.
