OMAHA, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Werner Enterprises (NASDAQ:WERN), a premier transportation and logistics company, recognized Earth Day Tuesday, April 22, at its global headquarters in Omaha, Neb. Steve Phillips, senior vice president of Fleet Resources, shared with the audience an update about Werner’s most recent sustainability progress and initiatives.
The event featured vehicles with alternative fuel engines, including a Werner CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) truck and trailer. Representatives from Johnstone Supply spoke to associates about home energy conservation, while representatives from General Motors and a local Chevy dealership displayed a hybrid vehicle and shared useful car care tips. Experts from several Werner departments also discussed the company’s latest green initiatives.
“We continue to strategically redefine our sustainability goals,” said Werner President and COO Derek Leathers. “As a member of the transportation industry, it is our responsibility to diligently research, test and utilize the latest technologies to reduce our carbon footprint and increase fuel efficiencies.”
Through Werner’s commitment to controlling excessive fuel consumption and pollutants, it has conserved more than 100 million gallons of fuel since 2007 and reduced its carbon footprint by more than 1 million tons. Werner incorporates industry-leading sustainability efforts into its business model, including installing diesel-fired heating systems to reduce truck idle time, utilizing aerodynamic trucks, equipping trailers with trailer skirts, using tire inflation systems and implementing the newest diesel technology.
