McKesson’s URAC Reaccreditation Marks a Decade of Quality

Reaccreditation Recognizes Case Management, Disease Management and Health Utilization Management Programs

NEWTON, Mass.--()--Today McKesson announced that it has once again received Full Core Reaccreditation and Vendor Recertification from URAC, a leader in quality standards for the healthcare industry. McKesson first earned accreditation for URAC Case Management, Disease Management and Health Utilization Management programs in 2003 and has maintained accreditation for 10 consecutive years.

“Improved outcomes and meaningful cost containment begin with quality care,” said Jackie Mitus, senior vice president of clinical development and product strategy for McKesson’s InterQual® Criteria product line. “McKesson was the first software company to receive accreditation from URAC’s Vendor Certification program. Now we’re the first to earn 10 years of continuous and additional accreditation. This underscores our commitment to providing top quality services and care management solutions that meet, and even exceed, our clients’ needs.”

McKesson Health Solutions products accredited by URAC include:

  • CareEnhance® Review Manager, which provides browser-based access to InterQual Criteria to support alignment of payers and providers in clinical decision making.
  • McKesson VITAL Platform (the latest version of CCMS™), which helps payers focus resources and coordinate care through improved automation and communication using a browser-based workflow tool.
  • CareEnhance® Disease Monitor, which uses medical and pharmacy claims to help payers determine when interventions can be most beneficial.

The rigorous URAC accreditation process is a framework to improve business processes by benchmarking organizations against nationally recognized standards. To achieve URAC Case Management reaccreditation, McKesson adhered to strict standards for written policies and procedures, staffing, ethics and confidentiality. Disease Management reaccreditation required McKesson to meet exacting standards addressing program scope and objectives, performance measurement and reporting, population management and program design. To earn Health Utilization Management reaccreditation, McKesson complied with national quality standards for staff qualifications, utilization management processes and confidentiality.

“With employer groups demanding quality improvements and health plans wanting to differentiate through accreditation, the value of URAC accreditation has never been greater,” said Noreen Stauffer, associate vice president of coordinated care for Care Management at McKesson. “By maintaining our accreditation, we help our clients meet URAC quality standards simply by using our products. The work we do to uphold these standards is more than an investment in the integrity of our own processes. It helps enrich the value of our software for our clients and their patients and members.”
