Winners rock GEICO Music Video Contest and tune teens into distracted driving

WASHINGTON--()--Music proves to be a very powerful tool when it comes to spreading the world about distracted driving, and winners in GEICO’s Distracted Driving Music Video Contest demonstrated that quite well.

In all, GEICO selected three videos that told the story of how to stay focused on the road with a winning blend of safety reminders, clever staging and good production values.

Winners who helped rock the message are:

  • Josette Diaz of New Jersey, grand-prize winner for his "Real Slow" music video.
  • Nadine Wagner of Connecticut, finalist for her "Why You Were Born" video.
  • Paulemine Mathias of Florida, finalist for his "Distraction" video.

Winning videos earned appearances on GEICO websites including GEICO's Safety Contest and cash awards.

"I’m always pleased to see how creative students can be, especially when it comes to a really good video message,” said Tony Nicely, GEICO's chairman and CEO. "We wanted to bring attention to distracted driving, particularly with our younger generation, and they proved they were equal to the assignment. I thank all those who entered our contest for their interest and their efforts in helping spread the important message about the dangers of distracted driving."

GEICO asked high school students to produce a music video that promotes distracted-free driving such as texting, talking on the phone, eating and grooming while driving. Students used one of GEICO's pre-recorded soundtracks to send their message to young drivers.
