SYKESVILLE, Md.--()--Global energy services solutions provider GSE Systems, Inc. (NYSE MKT: GVP) recently marked the launch of the Staythorpe/Pembroke Power Station simulator at RWE Generation’s Didcot Technical Support Centre. Representatives from both GSE and RWE met at the Support Centre on February 26 for the official opening and celebration, which included a presentation about the build project, a facility tour, and a simulator demonstration.

The Staythorpe/Pembroke unit is a full-scope combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant simulator. Its main purpose will be to train operators on the intricacies of the latest GT26 gas turbine controls used at RWE’s Staythorpe and Pembroke power stations in the UK.

The simulator will also be used to develop distributed control system (DCS) engineers, graduates, power technicians and non-operational staff.

GSE systems, supported by ABB, developed the simulator to provide a full-scope custom training solution modeled on the actual plant, plant systems and control systems of both of RWE’s UK GT26 plants.

“When we started this project in 2011, our goal was to build a system that would provide a safe environment for operators to test and develop their skills and competence,” said Geoff Carr, project manager for RWE. “GSE’s simulator will enable our people to enhance their understanding of plant control philosophy and operation, which will expand their operating experience, confidence and accuracy.”
