WAYNE, N.J.--()--Vision Research, a leading manufacturer of digital high-speed imaging systems, has begun shipping the Phantom v2010, the most-flexible and highest-performance ultra high-speed camera on the market. The Phantom v2010 captures more than 22,000 frames-per-second (fps) at full resolution and features high definition and widescreen 1280 x 800 CMOS sensors.

“Vision Research is thrilled to offer an innovative ‘higher-speed’ camera, which offers excellent memory, range, and imaging,” commented Rick Robinson, Director of Marketing for Vision Research. “Our ultra high-speed one megapixel family, with its high- performance features and abilities, is poised to bring scientists, researchers, and engineers a highly effective tool for studying or recording phenomena, which moves too fast to be seen by the human eye.”

The Phantom v2010 offers 12-bit pixel depth standard, which provides excellent image quality and high dynamic range. The camera can be configured with 24GB, 48GB, or 96GB of memory, which can be segmented into 63 partitions to allow for nonstop shooting without the need for continuous downloading.

Allowing for superior sensitivity when shooting in low light, the v2010 offers sensitivity as high as ISO 5000 (daylight illumination) for color images and ISO 25,000 for monochrome images, meaning less illumination is needed. The Phantom v2010 uses internal fans to keep the camera cool, particularly during outdoor use, but they can be temporarily switched ‘off’ for applications that are sensitive to vibration, such as microscopy.

With built-in on-camera controls (OCC), the majority of its settings can be managed with a turn of a knob, eliminating the need for a PC or laptop connection for camera control. In addition, the Phantom v2010 includes timecode, dual power inputs, HD-SDI, GPS input, camera synchronization, and trigger connections. These connections are handily placed on the back of the camera.

Phantom CineMag Workflow

The v2010 comes equipped with Vision Research’s breakthrough CineMag interface, which allows the user to save a high-speed shot from camera memory to non-volatile storage in a matter of seconds. With the ability to save 1GB/s of data to an attached CineMag, a 96GB shot can be saved in about 1.5 minutes.
