NORWALK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The City of Norwalk sees a strong resurgence in the Central Los Angeles region, and the County’s 15th largest municipality wants to be at the lead, according to City Manager Mike Egan.
At Friday’s annual State of the City address, Egan outlined Norwalk’s “2020 Vision” strategic action plan, calling for continued collaboration with neighboring communities like Downey, Cerritos, Santa Fe Springs, and Bellflower. Egan also stressed the need to collaborate for federal funding.
“Working together, sharing resources, finding solutions to best serve the residents and businesses in the region,” Egan said. “Being 20 minutes from downtown Los Angeles and 20 minutes from the heart of Orange County, this area, and certainly Norwalk, has a lot to offer, and I see continued growth and vitality.”
Egan also pointed to a 55-acre site in Norwalk that formerly produced petroleum for the U.S. government in World War II. The City is looking at a number of options, Egan said, including “retail, industrial, or even a corporate campus or educational campus.” Cleanup of the site will be completed in 2015.
Norwalk Calif., incorporated in 1957, ranks as Los Angeles County's 15th largest city with 110,000 residents and 5,000 businesses. The family-focused, business-friendly community is centrally located between downtown Los Angeles and Orange County, and is home to L.A. County's Superior Court, Registrar's Office, regional Library, Sheriff's Station, transportation center, and Cerritos College.
