US Air Force certifies Exelis-built electronic warfare systems for five international allies

CLIFTON, N.J.--()--Exelis (NYSE: XLS) has successfully installed the latest operational software and certified mission data files for Exelis-built Advanced Integrated Defensive Electronic Warfare Suite (AIDEWS) systems in Chile, Oman, Poland, Pakistan and Turkey. This important milestone represents the U.S. Air Force's certification that the systems are ready for operational use.

AIDEWS is an electronic warfare (EW) self-protection system that shields F-16 fighter aircraft from advanced radio frequency threats. Exelis has provided AIDEWS systems, components and operational software to the five countries as part of a foreign military sales program conducted through Warner Robins Air Force Base, Ga.

"AIDEWS is a powerful system that offers pilots sophisticated electronic protection," said Joe Rambala, vice president and general manager of the Exelis integrated electronic warfare systems business area. "This achievement represents a significant capability increase for our allies and is a testament to the role Exelis plays as a global leader in the field of electronic warfare."

AIDEWS is part of the ALQ-211 family of systems produced at the Exelis Electronic Systems (ES) facility in Clifton, N.J. ES is the lead division for the company's electronic warfare strategic growth platform and provides advanced, integrated EW solutions to protect and enable customers to perform their critical missions. Exelis is continuing to work with other international customers interested in the system.
