NERA Announces Senior-Level Promotions

NEW YORK--()--NERA Economic Consulting, a leading global provider of economic advice and analysis in business, legal, and regulatory matters, announced today the promotions of multiple global experts to Senior Vice President and Partner, and Vice President/Associate Director. Matthew Evans and Christian Dippon were promoted to Senior Vice President and Partner. In addition, Sugandha Tuladhar, Timothy Watts, and Yuko Saito were all promoted to Vice President and Robert Patton was promoted to Associate Director.

Matthew Evans is based in New York City and is an expert in global financial derivatives markets, asset/contract valuation, trading practices in physical, financial, and hybrid instruments, and hedging techniques in financial and commodity markets. In his career at NERA, Mr. Evans has aided many clients in the derivatives trading sector, valuing physical and financial assets, analyzing trading portfolios and hedging strategies, assisting with acute commercial issues, and conducting independent examinations related to regulator inquiries into trading activities. Prior to joining NERA, he was a Director at Barclays Capital, where he was Head of US Commodities Valuations and New Business. Mr. Evans earned a BS in international business from Ithaca College.

Dr. Christian Dippon, based in Washington, DC and San Francisco, is an internationally renowned expert in telecommunications and is co-Chair of NERA's Communications, Media & Internet practice. He specializes in the economics and business of the telecommunications and high-tech industries, advising his clients in complex litigation disputes, antitrust matters, regulatory and policy issues, and spectrum management challenges. Dr. Dippon has extensive testimonial experience, including depositions and expert testimonies before state and federal courts, the Federal Communications Commission, the International Trade Commission, numerous state commissions, and international regulatory, arbitration, and competition authorities. Dr. Dippon holds a PhD and an MA in economics and an undergraduate degree in Business Administration. He is fluent in English, German, and French, and proficient in spoken Thai and Spanish. Prior to joining NERA, Dr. Dippon was an analyst at BMW in Bangkok, Thailand.

Dr. Sugandha Tuladhar is based in Washington, DC, where his work focuses on economic analysis of regional, national, and international energy, environmental, and climate policies. He specializes in computable general equilibrium model development and its application, and designs economic models for energy and environmental policy analysis. He has developed models to analyze major US greenhouse gas reduction policies, transportation, and other energy policies. He has also analyzed international climate policies such as the Kyoto Protocol, European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), and Copenhagen Accord. Dr. Tuladhar previously consulted for the Asian Development Bank (ADB), was a Fulbright Scholar, and has authored and co-authored numerous articles, reports, and book chapters.

Dr. Timothy Watts, a member of NERA’s Antitrust and Competition Practice, is an economist who specializes in applying economic theory and econometric techniques to antitrust questions. He has advised clients on the review of numerous mergers and acquisitions before regulatory agencies including the US Federal Trade Commission, the US Department of Justice, the European Commission, and the Canadian Competition Bureau. Dr. Watts has also provided litigation support in antitrust lawsuits, including merger enforcement actions. He has extensive experience analyzing competition in the oil and gas industry, and he has also researched competition in the manufacturing, retail, pharmaceutical, chemical, and high-tech sectors. Dr. Watts received a PhD in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he taught courses in microeconomics, and earned a BA in economics from Vanderbilt University. His research has been published in the Review of Economics and Statistics.

Ms. Yuko Saito is a member of NERA's Global Transfer Pricing Practice. She has more than 10 years of consulting experience. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder and Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Her areas of expertise include developing and defending effective arm’s length pricing strategies for prominent multinational companies in the consumer electronics, automotive, nuclear power, electronic components, software, medical devices, and health care industries. She has applied her expertise to Advance Pricing Agreement (APA) negotiations with tax authorities, intercompany pricing controversies, and valuation of intangibles. Prior to joining NERA, Ms. Saito worked in Arthur Andersen LLP's Transfer Pricing Practice, where she focused on both APA and transfer pricing documentation work. Ms. Saito received her BS in accounting from Case Western Reserve University.

Robert Patton is a member of NERA’s Securities and Finance Practice and is based in London. He advises clients on economic issues in the context of complex commercial disputes, shareholder litigation, funds litigation, regulatory investigations and enforcement, and international arbitration. A particular focus of Mr. Patton’s work has been consulting on damages and related issues in cross-border disputes, both in national courts and in various international arbitration forums. He has also testified and consulted in securities class actions; this work encompasses analyses relating to market efficiency, materiality, loss causation, liability, damages, and prediction of settlement size. Mr. Patton holds a master’s degree from the London School of Economics and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.
