BNSF Logistics Launches Global Project Cargo Center

Investment aligns acquisition companies, personnel and BNSFL strategy

FLOWER MOUND, Texas--()--BNSF Logistics announces the grand opening of their Global Project Cargo Center (PCC) in Houston, Texas. The PCC brings together the talent resources of Albacor Shipping & EP-Team, two companies acquired by BNSFL in December 2012, with the staff from the legacy BNSFL organization under a single office, with a common focus and objective. The Project Cargo Center team will provide pricing, solutions development, carrier management and operations execution services to BNSFL customers engaged in the movement of over-dimensional, overweight cargoes with origins and destinations anywhere in the world.

“Houston is the North American nexus for project cargo movements. It was our good fortune that all three companies that now make up BNSF Logistics’ global service capabilities had existing presence in Houston with talented and very experienced staff,” said BNSFL’s President Ray Greer.

On Jan. 3 the company also completed brand migration activities that consolidated all services and market engagement under the BNSF Logistics moniker. The PCC team brings together 16 key individuals with combined experience in international freight and project cargo of more than 340 years. Michael Halm, formerly of Albacor Shipping and a 26-year industry veteran has been selected to oversee the Project Cargo Center as Director.

Market response to BNSFL’s investments in the project cargo space was very strong in the 4th quarter of 2013. Projects in development and scheduled for the first half of 2014 and beyond have BNSFL planning for on-going additions to staff capacity in Houston as well as off-shore offices in Europe, Asia and South America.

Greer added, “Our reasons for getting involved in the project cargo arena initially remain in place and we are seeing further developments and emerging markets around the world that offer great promise not just for the year ahead, but for the next decade or more.”

In addition to BNSF Logistics’ project cargo operations capabilities, recent staff additions and market vertical strategies are focused on developing and delivering solutions customized to align with the unique needs of the various markets within the industrial products arena. Recently named Trade Lane Managers oversee business development for Asia, South America and the Commonwealth of Independent States. While cross functional teams and market vertical leaders focus on the specific challenges and opportunities within Oil & Gas; PowerGen; Wind Energy; Mining and Minerals; Civil Engineering; Aerospace; Automotive and Government.
