W Barcelona Unveils Innovative Design for New W Lounge Following 1 Million Euro Renovation Investment

Iconic Hotel Features Cutting-Edge Design Inspired by the Vibrant Colours of Barcelona and the City’s Dynamic Energy and Cosmopolitan Mediterranean Style

BARCELONA, Spain--()--The iconic W Barcelona today unveils W Lounge, an energetic lounge in the heart of the hotel, set to be the hottest place to see and be seen in the city, offering global jetsetters and local trendsetters a place to mix and mingle over stylish cocktails and pulsating music. Led by London-based studio, United Design Partnership, W Lounge features a cutting-edge design that infuses the vibrant colours of Barcelona with the cosmopolitan city’s dynamic energy and cool Mediterranean style.

When W Barcelona splashed onto the scene in 2009, the hotel introduced the W brand’s unique and distinctive New York-inspired lifestyle programming to stylish guests and Barcelona locals alike at its beachfront location along the Barceloneta boardwalk. The launch of W Lounge – a re-invention of the hotel’s popular Living Room (W’s take on the traditional hotel lobby) following a 1 million Euro renovation investment – demonstrates W Barcelona’s continually evolving lifestyle experiences, including stylish daytime lounging and an electrifying nightlife.

Night and Day at W Lounge
“The new W Lounge evokes a sensory experience that reflects the wow factor of the W brand, whilst the colours and materials chosen convey the unique nautical, vibrant, playful and social personality of W Barcelona,” said Stephen Crawley, Design Director, United Design Partnership. “Our inspiration is based on the theme of ‘sky and sea by day and night’ as W Lounge offers a spectacular view of these two elements coming together on the edge of one of the most vibrant cities in the world.”

W Lounge reflects the changing hues of the sea and the sky: from the vast blue horizon that stretches out before the hotel when the first rays of sunlight hit Barcelona, to the mesmerising sunsets in a range of subtle shades of pink, purple, orange and, finally, indigo. As the sun sets, the distinctive sail of W Barcelona seems to emerge from the sea and its crystalline surface changes with the colours of the sea and the sky.

To capture this beautiful array of colours, W Lounge features a combination of electrifying and relaxing colours that change with the time of the day. The entrance and bar area are cloaked in a palette of blue, turquoise, white and silver, creating an ombré effect that echoes the meeting of the sky and the sea. A black strip in the middle of the lounge draws guests’ attention out to sea and the impressive view.

To keep the music pulsating into the night, the DJ is set at the back of the VIP cabana joining the two sides, public and private, of W Lounge. In the VIP area, the eye-catching graphic works by Italian-based artistic team Carnovsky transform depending on the light in the area, creating unexpected layers of colour and surfaces that evolve and interact with each different colour stimulus.

Fin-shaped screens create a wave effect in the lounge and bar areas and sea urchin patterns and dark and moody coral colours evoke a nautical party feel. The Nautica hanging chair by Mut design, an innovative young Spanish design company is a contemporary take on the traditional use of Ratan. It is an invitation to have fun with its movement and its design.

The Place to Escape and Let Go

The extensive drinks menu features classic cocktails as well as new signature concoctions such as Violette Royale, a concoction made with Martini Bianco, cava, elderflower liquor and blackberry, and Velvet Sour, a delicious mix of Grey Goose vodka, Galliano Liquor and vanilla syrup. W Lounge blends cool interiors and funky sounds with sublime new cocktails, using a variety of fresh ingredients, herbs and spices combined with premium spirits. Open every day from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m., W Lounge is set to be the place to see and be seen on the gorgeous Barceloneta beachfront.
