Parcel2Go Says Cyber-Monday Has Well And Truly Arrived In The UK – And Delivery Services Rose To The Challenge

BOLTON, England--()--Cyber Monday is the latest in a long line of American traditions to be embraced by Britons, with research showing that this year it brought a record number of visits to online retailers' websites.

And according to Bolton-based independent delivery services broker Parcel2Go, record online traffic on this year's key date - Monday, December 2 - brought record numbers of orders.

Yet couriers and delivery companies proved they were up to the task of dealing with a big spike in their business, and demonstrated why shoppers are increasingly putting their trust in e-retailers.

As people continue to flock online to research, seek out and buy their Christmas gifts, it all means extra work for parcel delivery service providers, whose jobs become ever more important as the growth in the number of transactions carried out online for home delivery continues to show no sign of slowing.

But with the massive resources they have at their disposal, UK couriers and worldwide shipping specialists alike are proving that they can meet the new demands placed on their services by shoppers' changing habits.

"There may have been some trepidation in the build-up to Cyber Monday over whether the delivery services which are such an integral part of the online shopping experience could handle the anticipated spike in their business," said Les Yates, Marketing Executive for Parcel2Go.com.

"But from our point of view, our online delivery services booking facilities coped admirably with the pressure, and we're all set for a busy, but well-ordered final countdown to the Christmas break – even if there's still a final surge in sales, with last-minute shoppers relying on next day delivery to ensure that all their presents arrive on time," he added.

And at the time of writing, it's expected that there will be one last online buying spike to come before the end of the year, as bargain-hunters log on in their quest for the best sale bargains, and then look to arrange a home delivery to avoid having to do battle with the expected bumper crowds.

But according to Les, online buyers can once again expect their delivery companies to rise to the occasion, as online retailers aim to see out 2013 on a high note.
