Matterhorn CEO Makes National Law Journal’s Inaugural List of 50 Business of Law Trailblazers & Pioneers

David Perla has been recognized in the Strategists & Drivers category for his groundbreaking work in legal process outsourcing.

NEW YORK--()--David Perla, CEO of Matterhorn Transactions, a leading information services provider that is transforming the way research is integrated into deal strategy, planning, and negotiation, and which is distributed through an exclusive partnership with LexisNexis, has been honored by the National Law Journal as one of 50 Business of Law Trailblazers & Pioneers. The announcement was made by the Journal’s Publisher, Kenneth A. Gary.

The Top 50 List celebrates innovation in business entrepreneurship in the legal space, which features 50 of the biggest names in the field.

Perla has been recognized for developing Pangea3, a legal process outsourcing company, with Co-CEO Sanjay Kamlani. The company was acquired by Thomson Reuters in 2010.

“This recognition comes as a genuine, and very pleasant surprise,” said Perla. ”We set out to fix what we saw as massive inefficiencies in the legal market, putting our legal and business skills to work. So being named a trailblazer is a real honor.”

Pangea3’s success lies in its disruption of the status quo. By outsourcing discrete functions, firms increase their productivity and profit. Perla has brought the same line of thinking to Matterhorn. “In terms of what the legal field needs, what was true in 2004 holds true today; core elements in improved productivity are efficiency, cost savings, and accuracy. We did it then through outsourcing. Today it’s through data analytics and process improvement. The market moves fast and lawyers need technology that moves them just as quickly, without losing precision,” said Perla.

Mark Gerson, Chairman of Gerson Lehrman Group and an initial seed investor in Matterhorn, recruited Perla to the role of CEO. “I couldn’t think of anyone better for the position at this stage of the company’s rapid growth. I am delighted that David has become the CEO of Matterhorn. He is one of this generation's great innovators in legal services and its affiliated technology -- and I am thrilled that his record of delivering extraordinary value to attorneys and their firms is continuing at Matterhorn.”
