BYD Electric Vehicle Fleets: A Centerpiece in the Celebration of a Wuzhou’s New Green Chapter

WUZHOU, China--()--Ceremonies were held last Thursday during the Gem Festival celebrating a new face on the streets of Wuzhou City. To kick start their clean city initiative, BYD Company Ltd has sponsored the first 30 of 200 BYD Electric Taxi vehicles that will go into operation throughout the year. In front of the large crowd gathered to usher in this new era for the Pearl River Delta, BYD’s General Manager Jie Wang passed a commemorative key to Chaowen Chen, Deputy Director of Wuzhou City’s Gem program. The key represented “A Key to the Future” for this great Chinese city.

30 pure electric e6 taxis sponsored by BYD serve as the official car of the Gem Festival, which marks Wuzhou City taking the first step in promoting new energy transportation. After the festival, the first batch of 30 electric taxis will constitute the first local pure electric fleet. In early October this year, BYD won the bid to supply 200 electric taxis for Wuzhou City. The remainder of the fleet will come in the months following the festival. Haoling Wu, Municipal Party Committee Member and Deputy Mayor of Wuzhou City, outlined in his speech the geographical advantages and investment environment of Wuzhou City. In his speech he discussed the city’s admiration for BYD and their world class technologies, as well as describing BYD as the perfect company to help his city open the page to this new chapter.

The BYD e6 is one of the longest range electric cars available today. With the ability to travel over 300 kilometers under load on a single charge, the e6 has proved to be a popular fleet taxi in cities around the world including London, Hong Kong, Bogota, Shenzhen and Taipei. In operation for more than three years now, the largest fleet in Shenzhen has proved its durability by recently surpassing the 100 million kilometer mark, putting an average of 300,000 kilometers per taxi with only less than 9% loss of battery capacity. The e6 will bring significant change to Wuzhou City, and be a great centerpiece at this year’s Gem Festival. For more information, visit BYD at www.facebook.com/bydcompany and www.byd.com.
