ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Siemens Government Technologies, Inc. announced today that the United States Coast Guard has awarded a $5.3 million task order to install and implement energy-conserving upgrades at the U.S. Coast Guard Base in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
Using an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) from the Department of Energy, the cost of the project will be funded by the energy savings guaranteed by Siemens and will allow the U.S. Coast Guard to advance President Obama’s vision for energy stewardship at federal facilities while meeting many of its energy conservation goals.
The energy conservation upgrades being implemented by Siemens Industry, Inc.’s Building Technologies division include boiler and burner conversions for heating improvements, installing a building automation system across the base, mechanical HVAC improvements and water conservation measures which are estimated to generate energy savings on average of $540,000 annually over the 14-year contract term.

The project is expected to reduce electricity consumption on the base by more than 1.1 million kilowatt hours annually, while also eliminating 78,000 gallons of fuel oil use and 32,000 gallons of liquid propane use each year. Water conservation initiatives are anticipated to save over 3 million gallons of water. This significant positive environmental impact is equivalent to reducing CO2 emissions by more than 3.7 million pounds per year.
U.S. Coast Guard Base Elizabeth City is located in northeastern North Carolina along the Pasquotank River near the opening of the Albemarle Sound. Base Elizabeth City was commissioned on August 15, 1940 and is home to the Aviation Logistics Center, Aviation Technical Training Center, Air Station Elizabeth City and Small Boat Station Elizabeth City. The U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City is considered one of the busiest Air Stations in the Coast Guard.
