A few years ago, Sea Tow relied on physical servers, backing up to tape as its primary data protection method. After researching a variety of options to take advantage of virtualization, Sea Tow installed VMware and selected PHD Virtual as the backup solution due to ease of use, performance and cost effectiveness. The company does backup locally with PHD Virtual Backup, then offsite to Amazon S3 with PHD CloudHook, the first virtual data protection solution to offer a seamless and painless link to cloud storage for backup, archiving and disaster recovery.

“Recently, our domain controller server became corrupt and by using PHD’s Instant Recovery feature, we were able to recover and come back online in just minutes. Our business is based on immediate response and had we not had PHD in place, that incident could have cost us dearly,” said Mark Szczepanik, System Administrator. “Any interruption could cost us hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue, and lost clients. That one incident has paid for our back up and data protection solutions for years to come.”

“Sea Tow has critical customer data and information that must be kept secure and ready at a moment’s notice as boaters rely on them for quick response,” said Joe Noonan, Senior Product Manager, PHD Virtual. “Utilizing PHD’s virtual appliance gives them low overhead and completes backups without over taxing the servers.”
