Itasca Australia Opens New Offices with New General Manager

MINNEAPOLIS--()--Itasca is pleased to welcome Dr. Glenn Sharrock (gsharrock@itasca.com.au) as the General Manager and Principal Geotechnical Engineer to Itasca Australia based in its new Itasca office in Brisbane. Glenn has more than 15 years of industry experience in a wide range of rock mechanics positions involving Rock Mechanics Engineer (Mt Isa Mines), Senior Geotechnical Consultant (AMC Consultants), Senior Lecturer in Geotechnical Engineering (UNSW) and Principal Geotechnical Engineer (Newcrest Mining NL). He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at the WH Bryan Mining and Geology Research Centre at the University of Queensland. Glenn’s consulting, operational and research experience includes underground and surface mining in hard rock and coal.

Glenn will step down from his duties at Newcrest in August, and join Itasca in October at the Itasca FLAC/DEM Symposium in China (www.flacdemsymposium.com). Dr. Loren Lorig, CEO of Itasca International Inc. (loren.lorig@itasca.cl) will be acting General Manager for Itasca Australia until Glenn is on board. Dr. Lorig comments, “Glenn’s exceptional background and experience adds to the diverse practical and numerical skill set across underground and surface mining in our Australian operations. We are excited to have Glenn join the worldwide Itasca family.”

The Itasca staff in Melbourne will be relocating to new office space in the Melbourne City Centre to accommodate additional people as the business continues to grow. Itasca expects the new office in Brisbane also will add staff as the business requires.
