Amerigroup Foundation Presents ‘Champion for Children’ Award to Georgia First Lady Sandra Deal

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.--()--The Amerigroup Foundation presented Georgia First Lady Sandra Deal of Atlanta, with its “Champion for Children” award in honor of her outstanding advocacy efforts on behalf of children. As part of this recognition, the Foundation awarded $2,500 to the Governor’s Office for Children and Families.

“We’re delighted to recognize First Lady Sandra Deal as a true advocate and voice for children in the community,” said Dr. Tunde Sotunde, chief executive officer of Amerigroup Georgia. “The First Lady shares our vision of positively shaping the lives of children in the community by supporting programs that enhance their future.”

First Lady Deal lives “with a servant’s heart” through volunteerism, community involvement and outreach — cherishing her family, the gift of children and the opportunity of giving back to others.

“I am humbled by this recognition. It is my joy to serve the children of our state and to advocate on their behalf. We must protect Georgia’s most precious resource — her children,” said Deal, the wife of Georgia Governor Nathan Deal.

The award is a part of a national program by the Amerigroup Foundation to recognize outstanding public advocacy efforts by government and community leaders to improve the health and well-being of children across the country.
