“We are excited to bring GoldieBlox to such a high-profile retailer as Toys“R”Us, where millions of parents and girls shop for toys and entertainment,” said Debbie Sterling, CEO and founder of GoldieBlox. “Goldie breaks the mold of the stereotypical engineer. In her overalls and tool belt, Goldie is a quirky girl who loves to build. Our mission is to make engineering fun and accessible to girls who will go on to build the future and who knows, maybe the next Google or Facebook.”

GoldieBlox and the Spinning Machine is the first product available from GoldieBlox. In Goldie's debut story, she decides to build a spinning machine to help her dog, Nacho, chase his tail. Soon, the whole gang wants in on the action. Girls can help Goldie build a belt drive to spin everybody.

GoldieBlox, retailing for $29.99 and for girls ages four to nine, is located in the Construction Set section of Toys“R”Us, and can also be purchased online at Toysrus.com.

Debbie Sterling, a Stanford University engineering graduate, founded GoldieBlox in 2012 when she noticed that while engineers are solving some of the biggest challenges are society faces, the field is dominated by men, much due to the lack of female engineer role models. GoldieBlox was created to get girls interested in engineering, develop their spatial skills and build self-confidence in their problem solving abilities. The company was initially funded on Kickstarter (only nine months ago) with a $150,000 goal and finished being 190 percent funded with 5,519 backers and $285,881 pledged.

The company is developing additional construction sets that will continue to build Goldie’s story.
