Software AG Government Solutions Announces Three New Members to its Board of Directors

Industry Veterans Join Leading Edge Software Company

RESTON, Va.--()--Software AG Government Solutions today announced it has appointed three new members to its Board of Directors. The new members are Lieutenant General USAF (Retired) Chuck Heflebower, The Honorable Dr. John Hillen and Alan Wade who is the former Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

Lieutenant General USAF (Retired) Chuck Heflebower is Senior Vice President at SAIC. Prior to joining SAIC, Heflebower served almost nine years as an independent consultant, principally as a Senior Mentor with the Air Force Operational Command Training Program. In this role, he advised, educated and trained top senior leadership members of all Services.

Prior to becoming a consultant, Heflebower served for nearly 35 years on active duty with the U.S. Air Force, retiring in January 2002 as a Lieutenant General. In the Air Force, his operational assignments included duty as a reconnaissance and fighter pilot. His commands included a fighter squadron, a fighter wing and twice numbered air force. His Air Staff (Pentagon) assignments included leadership positions in operational requirements, personnel, plans, programs, and base realignment and closure.

Heflebower has served on the Board of Directors of Ericsson Federal where he was the Chairman of the Government Security Committee. He graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering. In 1974 he earned a master’s degree from the University of Arkansas in International Relations. He graduated from the National War College in 1985.

The Honorable Dr. John Hillen was the President and CEO of Sotera Defense Solutions, Inc. (Sotera), formerly Global Defense Technology & Systems, Inc., from 2008-2013. He still serves as the Vice Chairman of the Board of Advisors at Sotera. From 2005 to 2007, Dr. Hillen served as the Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs in the Bush administration.

Prior to his appointment, Dr. Hillen served as the President of what is now CGI Federal Inc., the cleared American subsidiary of Canadian IT firm CGI, Inc. Other positions included the head of the $415 million defense and intelligence business at American Management Systems Inc. (which was sold to CACI International in 2004) and Chief Operating Officer of Island ECN, Inc., a $500M+ financial services firm in New York City.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Hillen worked as a military policy expert and also served for 12 years as an Army officer. He is an author and editor of several books on international security and has been published in dozens of leading journals and newspapers, including the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. Dr. Hillen currently serves on the Chief of Naval Operations Executive Panel. He graduated from Duke University, holds a master's degree from King's College London, an MBA from the Johnson School of Management at Cornell and received his doctorate from Oxford.

Alan Wade retired from federal service at the end of 2005 after a 35-year career in the CIA. He retired as the CIO, a position he held since 2001. In his assignment as CIO, he took on the dual role of CIO for the United States Intelligence Community. Previously, he held senior positions at the CIA, including the Director of Communications and Director of Security. He is a recipient of the National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal, the Director’s Medal, and the Distinguished Intelligence Medal.

Since retirement Wade has worked with several early stage companies. He served on the boards of Safeboot N.V. (acquired by McAfee in 2007) and Detica DFI (acquired by BAE Systems in 2008). He currently serves on the boards of Composite Software in San Mateo, Calif., Chiliad Inc. in Washington, D.C., JSI Telecom in Sterling, Va., and LexisNexis Special Services in Washington, D.C. Additionally, Wade serves on the Board of Trustees of Aerospace Corporation and on public sector advisory boards of several technology companies.

Wade is also a Board member of the organization of retired CIA officers and the advisory board of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Va., in 1973, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. In 1978, he received his master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
