PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--George Grunberger, M.D., F.A.C.P., F.A.C.E., was elected Vice President of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) at its 22nd Annual Scientific and Clinical Congress in Phoenix, on Sunday, May 5, 2013.
“I am honored by the trust placed by members of AACE in my ability to continue serving them on the Executive Committee in the position of Vice President,” Dr. Grunberger said. “In my new role, it will be my utmost priority to help our members to achieve the mission of AACE to enhance its ability to provide the highest quality of patient care.”
As Vice President, Dr. Grunberger will act on behalf of the AACE President and/or President Elect in the event that both are unable to fulfill their duties. Dr. Grunberger will also serve on the Association’s Executive Committee and the Board of Directors.
Dr. Grunberger founded the Grunberger Diabetes Institute in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan in 2002. He is a Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine and Molecular Medicine & Genetics at Wayne State University School of Medicine. As a tenured Full Professor at Wayne State University in 1986, he established and directed the Diabetes Program at the Detroit Medical Center and served as Medical Director of the University’s Comprehensive Diabetes Center until 2002. He also served as Director of the Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics (1997-2001) and Interim Chairman of Internal Medicine at Wayne and Physician-in-Chief of the Detroit Medical Center (1995-1996). Dr. Grunberger completed his endocrinology fellowship at the Diabetes Branch of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) where he then worked as a senior investigator until 1986. He did internal medicine training at the University Hospitals of Cleveland, received his medical degree at New York University School of Medicine and Bachelor of Arts in biochemistry at Columbia College, also in New York City.
In addition to working with AACE, Dr. Grunberger has been active in other professional organizations. At the American Diabetes Association, he served as President of the Michigan Affiliate. At the national level, he served on the ADA national board of directors; nominating, publications, and research policy committees; and chaired its scientific and medical meetings oversight committee.
