McAfee and NIST Join Forces in National Cybersecurity Excellence Partnership

Partnership Aims to Secure Vulnerable Infrastructure against Present and Future Cyber Attacks

ROCKVILLE, Md.--()--McAfee today will join top cybersecurity specialists from the public and private sector to improve the effectiveness of computer security for all Americans. The first-of-its-kind National Cybersecurity Excellence Partnership is part of the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence, which is hosted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology in collaboration with the state of Maryland and Montgomery County. McAfee is a charter member of the Center, which was launched in February 2012.

The Center will have a special focus on shared technologies so that technologies from one company or government laboratory can take advantage of the capabilities of others in the marketplace. Most, if not all, of the work produced through the partnership will be released to the public in order to better secure the nation’s critical infrastructure.

“This is an excellent example of a public-private partnership that will produce dynamic results,” said Tom Gann, vice president for government relations at McAfee. “The collaborative work of the National Cybersecurity Excellence Partnership will benefit important national initiatives such as e-health and e-learning along with improving the security of the nation’s businesses.

“McAfee is a leader in this market, but we know we’re not alone in the fight. Every attacker, every would-be cyber thief or terrorist is looking for loopholes and weaknesses in our cyber defenses. Seamless security – a continuum of secure systems, no matter who makes or services them – is our goal. The Center’s goal of interoperability is an important step towards that,” said Gann.

McAfee will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with NIST today at the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence, 9600 Gudelsky Drive, Rockville, Md., 20850.

The schedule is as follows:
