Combined with the HIE and associated clinical workflows, Direct Secure Messaging provides a way for providers to share the HIE aggregated patient record with providers, a feature that boosts clinician adoption of the technology. Direct Secure Messaging can be used to transmit referrals and prior authorizations, send discharge summaries to primary care physicians, send lab results, exchange information with a state or regional HIE, and for public health reporting, all of which help to improve care coordination and accelerate treatment.
