NEW ORLEANS--()--Orion Health, the leader in eHealth technology, today announced Orion Health Direct Secure Messaging v2.0, a full-service Health Information Service Provider (HISP) and product suite that provides connectivity to the national Direct Messaging network. Developed using the national standards put forth by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology’s (ONC’s) Direct Project, Orion Health Direct Secure Messaging offers fast, secure electronic communication between healthcare providers to improve care coordination and security of patient data while also reducing costs, increasing efficiencies and helping to meet Meaningful Use requirements. Orion Health Direct Secure Messaging v2.0 offers three products and a complete suite of managed services to meet the needs of hospitals, health systems, IDNs and other healthcare organizations of all of sizes and IT capabilities and resources.

Orion Health Direct Secure Messaging can be used as a stand-alone solution or can be deployed with Orion Health HIE. Combined with the HIE and associated clinical workflows, Direct Secure Messaging provides a way for providers to share the HIE aggregated patient record with providers, a feature that boosts clinician adoption of the technology. Direct Secure Messaging can be used to transmit referrals and prior authorizations, send discharge summaries to primary care physicians, send lab results, exchange information with a state or regional HIE, and for public health reporting, all of which help to improve care coordination and accelerate treatment.

Orion Health Direct Secure Messaging v1 is implemented at several healthcare organizations, including Alaska eHealth Network, Louisiana Health Information Exchange, North Carolina Health Information Exchange, North Texas Accountable Healthcare Partnership and DC-HIE, and serves nearly 6000 users around the country.

“The healthcare provider landscape is highly fragmented and heterogeneous, and therefore there is no one-size-fits-all solution to health information exchange. Orion Health’s ability to provide a variety of data exchange tools and integration methods is a critical driver of widespread adoption of HIE services in Massachusetts and New Hampshire,” said Micky Tripathi, president and CEO of the Massachusetts eHealth Collaborative. "We are excited that Orion Health Direct Secure Messaging v2.0 offers secure communications for any healthcare organization, regardless of size or technology resources, which will more broadly help providers improve care coordination and meet Meaningful Use requirements.”

“Orion Health has always been a leader in the development of clinician-friendly solutions that improve efficiency and enable providers to improve the quality of patient care,” said Paul Viskovich, president of Orion Health North America. “With Orion Health Direct Secure Messaging, clinicians at healthcare entities of all sizes and technological capabilities can securely communicate and collaborate with their peers not only across the continuum of patient care but also across the region, state or even country.”
