KAMP-LINTFORT, Germany--()--IMST, german expert for wireless solutions presents the latest solutions for smart metering applications at Embedded World 2013 in Nuremberg and CeBIT 2013 in Hannover.

On behalf of RWE Effizienz GmbH the business unit Wireless Solutions within IMST developed the RWE SmartHome Power Control system based on iM871A - one of the best Wireless M-Bus modules. RWE SmartHome Power Control allows – in conjunction with the central control unit from RWE SmartHome – the straightforward reading of meter data from an electronic household meter (EDL21). With RWE SmartHome Power Control, energy consumption can be evaluated daily, weekly or monthly. Intelligent power management reduces power consumption and costs. The system consists of the customer specific designed infrared readout unit iM871A-ir and the IMST's wireless M-Bus USB flash drive iM871A-usb. The readout and receiving unit communicate via the Wireless M-Bus standard with a 128-bit AES encryption, which ensures the security of customer data.

"This project shows the core competency of the IMST," says Heinz Syrzisko, head of Wireless Solutions. "By customizing our standard solutions it is possible to realize a specific customer product within a short time."

Beside the development of the smart metering system the range of modules for wireless M-Bus has been extended. Under the product names iM170A, iM470A and iM873A IMST introduces three pin-compatible Wireless M-Bus modules with the same footprint for the frequency bands 169 MHz, 433 MHz and 868 MHz. "This provides the opportunity for our customers to exchange the modules without any major design changes" explains Heinz Syrzisko, head of Wireless Solutions at IMST. The module iM873A is based on the current chipsets of Silabs and is optimized for battery-powered applications with extremely long battery lifetime.

In addition to the two innovations IMST shows the whole WiMOD family of pre-certified wireless modules for both proprietary protocols as well as for standardized protocols in the license-free ISM bands at 868 MHz and 2.4 GHz. The modules provide a cost effective and rapid integration of wireless technology into existing or new products. In this case, users do not need special expertise in RF technology. IMST provides integration support for antenna- and hardware-design as well as software customization.
