LONDON--()--According to UN projections by 2025 two thirds of the population will be in “water stressed conditions” and 2 billon will people will be experiencing severe water scarcity. Rise in demand for food and energy is predicted to rise by 50% in the year 2030.

Yet in spite of these bleak figures KPMG estimates 60 per cent of businesses” do not have a long-term strategy to deal with water scarcity’.

To address how the business model can be revamped to reflect the nexus of water, food and energy scarcity, Ethical Corporation has organised a free one hour webinar on “how the company of 2020 will operate in a resource constrained world”. The webinar will take place on Thursday 7th February 11AM GMT. Offering their views and answering questions on this crucial topic will be four business and academic experts:

  • Aramex: Chief Sustainability and Compliance Officer Raji Hattar
  • ArcelorMittal: Head of CSR Charlotte Wolff
  • London Business School: Assistant Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship Ioannis Ioannou
  • CSM Global: Sustainability Director Nicola Kimm

The debate will focus on practical measures and steps businesses can implement in the areas of supply chain management, stimulating behaviour change and green technology.

Highlighting the crucial nature of the debate, Assistant Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship, Ioannis Ioannou at London Business School said: “Now more than ever we need concrete research into the idea of decoupling growth from consumption. The key question is how can business achieve this decoupling? Businesses naturally need to grow, but they must do so without the over consumption of resources. It is simply not sustainable for growth to be matched like for like by increased consumption.”

Over 500 hundred people have already signed up to the free interactive debate. It is shaping up to be an important discussion and robust debate, designed to uncover opportunities in the new “green” business model.
