MINNEAPOLIS--()--BreathableBaby, the Minneapolis-based child safety products company, is pleased to announce their award winning Breathable Mesh Crib Liner is not included in the State of Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene adopted action prohibiting the sale of baby bumper pads beginning June 21, 2013. Maryland is the first state to make the sale of crib bumper pads illegal.

“As a company built on the mission to provide safe sleep products for babies, BreathableBaby supports Maryland’s ban of non-mesh crib bumpers,” said Susan Waters, President of BreathableBaby. “Our Breathable Mesh Crib Liners were developed to reduce the risk of suffocation -- the same safety concern the Maryland ban addresses, while providing a safer way to keep babies’ arms and legs from getting stuck in the crib slats,” said Waters.

The approved regulation defines the banned product as:

“Baby bumper pads” means a pad or pads of non-mesh material resting directly above the mattress in a crib, running the circumference of the crib or along the length of any of the interior sides of the crib, and intended to be used until the age that an infant pulls to stand”.

BreathableBaby Mesh Crib Liners are designed with proprietary breathable fabrics identified as SPT – Suffocation Prevention Technology – that work together to promote air access and help reduce the risks of suffocation.

“Safety is our priority, and our Mesh Crib Liners have undergone extensive third-party testing which support our safety claims,” said Susan Waters. “Our Breathable Mesh Crib Liner is 11 inches tall with only 1-inch of non-breathable fabric on the liner edge. We urge parents to be discerning when considering bumper pad alternatives to avoid purchasing an inferior product. Not all mesh crib liners are created equal and those that have more non-breathable fabric accessible to a baby may pose an unnecessary risk,” said Susan Waters.

The Mesh Crib Liner with SPT is a safer alternative to traditional crib bumper pads and has been evaluated, tested, and recommended by pediatricians. It provides an area of breathable, slightly cushioned, mesh fabric at 10 inches with a 1-inch fabric edge and is available for around $30. When the liner is compressed, it is virtually impossible to form an airtight seal.

BreathableBaby has been recognized by a variety of parenting industry awards, including The Child Safety House Calls Award of Excellence, and National Parenting Center Seal of Approval for innovation, functionality, design and contribution to creating a safer, healthier crib environment.

BreathableBaby products are available at national retail and online merchandisers in the U.S. and Canada. Visit www.breathablebaby.com for more product information and a list of retailers.
