ARLINGTON, Va.--()--The CEA® Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, congratulated the first honoree in the new “Accessible & Universal Design Technologies” category for the International CES Innovations 2013 Design and Engineering Awards.

Moneual’s Smart Care system for hearing-impaired persons was recognized for its “innovative features that enable ease of use by anyone, including, but not limited to, accessibility for seniors and people with disabilities, regardless of cognitive, hearing, mobility, visual or other impairments.” The Moneual Smart Care system for the hearing impaired detects a wide range of noises and sounds that occur and transmits this information to its user, giving the hearing impaired users awareness of all sounds while also keeping them safe from risks.

Dovetailing with its mission to link seniors and people with disabilities with technologies to enhance their lives, the CEA Foundation sponsored the new Accessible & Universal Design Technologies category for the 2013 CES Innovations Awards. This category’s judges included representatives from the disability community and industry to select the winners for the 2013 competition.

“Consumer technology companies continue to develop exciting innovations that help enhance the lives of seniors and people with disabilities,” said CEA Foundation Chairman John Shalam, founder of VOXX International Corporation (formerly Audiovox). “We were glad to hear about a number of excellent nominations in this new Innovations Awards category, accentuating the relevance of the foundation’s work.”
