Glaser Weil Announces Richard S. Volpert to Join Firm as Senior Partner

LOS ANGELES--()--Glaser Weil Fink Jacobs Howard Avchen & Shapiro LLP is pleased to announce that Richard S. Volpert has joined the Firm as Senior Partner in the firm’s real estate practice.

“Dick Volpert is one of the most admired attorneys in Los Angeles and a giant in real estate law. It is an honor to have him as part of our Firm,” said name partner Patty Glaser.

Mr. Volpert brings more than 50 years of law practice focused on the planning and development of large scale real estate projects, including major office buildings, shopping centers and planned communities. In recent years, Mr. Volpert has been involved in the development of the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the proposed $3 billion Grand Avenue Project in Downtown Los Angeles. He handled the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s $75 million purchase of Union Station and numerous transit-oriented public-private joint ventures, including the Hollywood & Vine Center and Wilshire/Western Station projects.

Mr. Volpert has been involved in major real estate matters for such companies as Pacific Enterprises, Southern California Gas Co., CBS and Olympia & York. He has represented the County of Los Angeles, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the City of Santa Monica in a series of public-private projects for the development of office buildings, hotels, apartment buildings and other real estate facilities. He has also negotiated long-term stadium leases for the New England Patriots and the San Diego Chargers.

He was the recipient of the “Outstanding Real Estate Lawyer” award by the Los Angeles County Bar Association in 2003 and the “Learned Hand Award” from the American Jewish Committee in 1999. He is the author of "Creation and Maintenance of Open Spaces in Subdivisions: Another Approach," 12 UCLA Law Review 830, and was the practice consultant for the zoning and land use volumes of 'California Real Estate Law and Practice', published by Matthew Bender. He is a former member of the board of governors of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and an officer of the Anglo American Real Property Institute.

In addition, he has participated in a broad range of community activities. He has been president and chairman of the board of the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History Foundation; chairman of the Board of councilors of the USC Law Center; vice president of the Jewish Federation-Council of Los Angeles and chairman of its Community Relations Committee; president of the Los Angeles Chapter and a national vice president of the American Jewish Committee; president of the Los Angeles Wholesale Produce Market Development Corp.; and vice chairman of the National Jewish Community Relations Advisory Council.

Mr. Volpert is a graduate of Amherst College and Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. He is a past chairman of the Real Property Section of Los Angeles County Bar Association, editor and chairman of the California State Bar Journal and trustee of the L.A. County Bar Association, among other bar activities. He has been a lecturer at real estate and planning and zoning courses given by the California Continuing Education of the Bar, the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and the ALI/ABA.
