Senator Blumenthal Visits Connecticut Senior Living Community

ALEXANDRIA, Va.--()--The Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) and Benchmark Senior Living hosted an event that brought together senior living employees, residents and their families, and other stakeholders to meet with Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT). The event took place at a local senior living community where Senator Blumenthal spoke to participants about his time as Attorney General and U.S. Senator, answered questions about seniors’ issues, and toured the senior living community.

The Senator visited River Ridge at Avon, a senior living community that offers a continuum of services including assisted living, memory care, and respite care. As a part of the tour of the senior living community, Senator Blumenthal viewed one resident’s private apartment as well as common areas including the community’s ice cream parlor, library, and resident dining room. Highlighting the many benefits of senior living, residents also met with the Senator to share their personal experiences.

Senator Blumenthal spoke to participants about his commitment to seniors’ issues. He discussed his efforts to combat elder abuse, including a hearing he chaired on the topic, the importance of protecting veterans’ benefits, and the need to preserve Medicare and Social Security. He answered questions from participants and connected with attendees at a reception held in his honor. Pictures of Senator Blumenthal’s visit can be viewed on ALFA’s Flickr.

“As a member of the Senate Special Committee on Aging, Senator Blumenthal has steadfastly served seniors,” said ALFA President & CEO Richard P. Grimes. “It was an honor to host such a champion for seniors at an ALFA member community. Elected officials like Senator Blumenthal are crucial to ensuring that laws allow senior living communities across the country to continue to provide resident-centered care and promote the values of choice, dignity, independence, accessibility, and quality of life for seniors’ who choose to call these communities home.”
