Tenable Network Security Adds Vulnerability Assessment for Personal Mobile Devices on Corporate Networks

Tight Integration between Nessus and Mobile Device Management Information Helps Enterprises Reduce BYOD Risk from Employee Smartphones and iPads

COLUMBIA, Md.--()--Tenable Network Security, Inc., the leader in Unified Security Monitoring (USM), announced today its Nessus® vulnerability scanner, the industry’s most widely deployed vulnerability assessment solution, now integrates with Apple® Profile Manager and Microsoft® Exchange via Active Directory®. The Nessus Mobile Device Audit plugins will quickly enumerate iOS and Android™-based devices accessing their corporate network, discover device information, and detect mobile vulnerabilities. This provides a comprehensive view of an organization’s mobile and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) environment and vulnerability status. This new capability will be delivered at no additional cost to all Nessus users: Nessus ProfessionalFeed, Nessus Perimeter Service™, and Nessus HomeFeed.

The increasing business trend of BYOD has quickly shifted mobile device security to a top priority for security managers, auditors, and executives. In fact, the average mobile worker carries 3.5 mobile devices at all times, a number that has doubled within the past three years and will likely continue to grow — presenting an even greater risk to enterprises. Tenable’s new Mobile Device Audit capability helps arm organizations with the tools necessary to discover iPhones®, iPads®, and Android-based devices on the network and detect and prioritize mobile device threats.

“Tenable is helping organizations manage risk from emerging technologies like mobile devices, social networking platforms, and virtual environments,” said Ron Gula, CEO of Tenable Network Security. “We’re pushing the boundaries of network security by offering a single platform that discovers mobile devices and keeps organizations ahead of mobile threats.”

Mobile Device Management Integration Features

Tight integration allows Nessus to quickly and reliably provide administrators an inventory of mobile devices on their network and identify mobile vulnerabilities. Additional features include the ability to:

  • Obtain detailed mobile device information - serial number, model, version, timestamp of last connection, and user
  • Itemize out-of-date versions of Apple iOS
  • Discover jailbroken iOS devices

Available immediately as a “Beta” feature, this functionality will be expanded to include additional mobile OSes and mobile device management solutions.
