Tonic Health’s Immersive Medical Data Collection Platform Debuts on the App Store

Secure, HIPAA-compliant iPad-based tool spurs better care, engages patients right from check-in

MENLO PARK, Calif.--()--Tonic Health, a developer of patient-friendly and robust medical data collection tools, today announced that its flagship product, Tonic, is now available on the App Store℠. Tonic is an iPad®-based data collection platform that combines a dynamic interface, visually appealing graphics, and game-like features to compel patients to provide the most accurate and complete medical information possible. With the best picture of their patient’s condition and Tonic’s built-in screening capabilities, physicians can provide better and more efficient care at a lower cost.

The Tonic app is easy to use for physicians and patients alike. After downloading the application and creating an account on Tonic’s website (http://www.tonicforhealth.com), healthcare providers use Tonic’s online Survey Builder to create data collection forms that are deployed to any iPad with a single click. Users can design surveys for a broad variety of applications such as patient intake, patient satisfaction, quality of care evaluation, patient reported outcomes, clinical trial enrollment, and more.

In the hands of a patient, Tonic transcends pen-and-paper data collection through a simple, intuitive, and even entertaining interface. The platform pairs contextually relevant graphics with text to boost understanding and encourage high rates of completion and engagement. Information entered by the patient is securely transferred to the provider’s electronic medical record system or other data storage unit for optimal data capture.

By collecting more – and more accurate – data about their patients’ conditions, healthcare providers benefit from Tonic’s built-in ability to screen and flag patients for a variety of conditions and risks—all in real time. For example, a breast health clinic can run popular risk algorithms – such as the Gail model – to calculate a female patient’s chance of developing breast cancer, all before she even leaves the waiting room. These screening capabilities can be augmented by providers’ own custom models and algorithms, as well. The end result is more information that can lead to optimized, personalized care and lower costs.

“By empowering patients and engaging them on their own terms, Tonic offers powerful benefits for healthcare providers seeking to maximize care while conserving resources,” said Sterling Lanier, chief executive officer and co-founder of Tonic Health. “Our approach to medical data collection is unique in its ability to pair a patient-friendly, colorful, and vibrant interface with robust screening and other capabilities. Offering Tonic on the App Store will enable even more providers to start using the platform and begin transforming their practices.”

Tonic has been embraced by prominent healthcare institutions throughout the country, including the University of California’s ATHENA Breast Health Network and groups at the UCLA Health System, Mayo Clinic, Stanford University, and Georgetown University Medical Center, among others.

Tonic is available on the App Store in basic and full-featured versions. The basic version – which is free and includes a demo of Tonic – enables a healthcare provider to begin using the platform by creating and deploying medical data collection forms with a maximum of ten questions each. Data generated can be exported to an Excel file. The full-featured version, which is priced based on estimated survey volume, allows for the creation of an unlimited number of forms with unlimited questions, data export to an EMR or other backend database, the ability to custom-brand the interface, multiple language functionality and full customer support.

The free Tonic app can be downloaded from the App Store here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tonic-health/id530201379?mt=8.
