VERTEX’S LOIS REYNOLDS SHARES INSIGHTS ON WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Joins panel discussion at the Conference Board’s Women’s Leadership Conference on April 19 that discusses opportunities for women to foster leadership development

On April 19, Lois Reynolds, Vertex’s Manager of Software Test Engineering and Vertex Women’s Leadership Forum founding member, will join a panel discussion titled, “Women’s Networks and Forums: Building a Solid Foundation for Advancement,” at the Conference Board’s Women’s Leadership Conference in New York City.

Reynolds and fellow panel members Jennifer Rowland from Ernst & Young, and Deborah Butters from IBM, will offer insight into creating a Women’s Network within organizations both large and small. The discussion will focus on how to determine the type of network needed, successfully engaging stakeholders, and how these networks help women foster their own leadership development and benefit the larger organization.

“This panel discussion offers a unique opportunity to learn about the benefits of creating women’s networks,” said Reynolds. “As we seek to improve women’s overall presence in the workplace, networking, mentoring and leadership development are crucial to our shared success. By organizing through networks and forums, we not only help develop our own skills, but also empower the next generation of women within our organizations.”

In 2008, a group of women at Vertex Inc., the leading provider of corporate enterprise tax solutions, gathered to discuss how they could provide women leaders the opportunity to further develop their leadership skills, while at the same time, creating a community to provide Vertex with a diverse group of leaders to help fuel the growth and expansion of the company.

After careful thought and research, they established the Vertex Women's Leadership Forum, an internal group that provides career-broadening opportunities, mentoring, support and networking opportunities for women in leadership roles at the company.

Since its founding, the Vertex Women’s Leadership forum has grown 125 percent to include members from across all areas of the company. The group sponsors a variety of professional and leadership workshops and provides women with a means of receiving encouragement and multiple viewpoints of open and honest feedback from peers.

Vertex’s Chief Executive Officer, Jeff Westphal, has been impressed with not only the group’s impact on women throughout the company, but on the company itself.

“Perhaps the most important benefit of the group has been its impact on Vertex,” said Westphal. “Women participating in the forum have committed to raising their level of leadership to positively impact the organization. For a growing company like Vertex, this is essential to leveraging our opportunities and continuing to increase our market share.”
