SYDNEY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ideas International Limited (IDEAS, ASX:IDE) has released the outcomes for its Server Efficiency Trend, which show that long-term server efficiency, defined as server performance per watt, is doubling about every seven quarters. The IDEAS Server Efficiency Trend provides a “whole market” view of server efficiency and is powered by RPE2, the atomic unit of compute.
This outcome reinforces findings from research conducted by Jonathan Koomey, consulting professor at Stanford University, who in 2009 found that server efficiency doubles every 1.57 years, or just over every six quarters. This principle has become known as Koomey’s Law.
Gary Burgess, senior vice president at IDEAS, stated, “IDEAS Trends analysis shows that while server performance is improving, so is server efficiency. This means that servers are not gaining performance at the expense of power consumption.”
Mr. Burgess continued, “Users can increase their throughput without a general increase in energy consumption. Or they can consolidate existing workloads onto more powerful, smaller servers and save energy.”
