Safer E-Mails Thanks to Improved Signature and Encryption Software for Outlook 2010 from Giegerich & Partner

The new Outlook-extension gpg4o enables companies to reliably secure their E-Mail communication. Based on the free cryptography system GnuPG the new and improved version 2.0 of gpg4o is now available at the online-shop of Giegerich & Partner.

DREIEICH, Germany--()--In 2011 the Association Germany Safe in the Network e. V. (Deutschland sicher im Netz e.V. (www.sicher-im-netz.de) alerted that „In 50 percent of the companies E-mails are not protected by any measure against unauthorized access, abuse or manipulation during transmission“. These glaring failures with regard to E-mail protection can cost both senders and recipients especially if confidential or sensitive data fall into the wrong hands. Protecting against these risks can be achieved with relatively little effort. Digital signatures and encryption ensure that a file or message is authentic and that altering the contents is impossible.

gpg4o closes an important functionality gap in Outlook 2010

With gpg4o Giegerich & Partner has developed an extension for Microsoft Outlook 2010 that brings OpenPGP encryption and digital E-Mail signatures to this popular and widely-used Office product. The new version 2.0 which adds many features and improvements is now available at the online-store (https://shop.giepa.de).

The Add-In easily integrates in Microsoft Outlook 2010. Every day usage is very simple: The display of signed and/or encrypted E-mails is readily identifiable for the user. Furthermore gpg4o automatically decrypts data attachments sent by mail and is compatible with all OpenPGP compliant encryption programs (e.g. PGP Desktop, Enigmail, etc.).

gpg4o 2.0 has a very user-friendly design and seamlessly integrates into Microsoft Outlook 2010. With the new version 2.0 we have improved some essential features of gpg4o.”, explains the managing director Hans-Joachim Giegerich. The new version contains the following product improvements:

  • Receiving/sending mails in HTML-format
  • Receiving PGP/MIME-mails
  • Support of GnuPG 2.0x (GNU Privacy Guard / GPG)
  • Automatic network-installation routine (‘Silent Installation’) and updates
  • Increased compatibility with other encryption products and mail-servers
  • Optimized user guidance

gpg4o 2.0 runs on all Microsoft-operating systems as of Windows XP (Service-Pack 3) and requires Outlook 2010 as well as the free software GnuPG (version 1.4.2 or newer).

A detailed and comprehensible functional description of the software-extension including compatibility information is available at http://www.gpg4o.com

gpg4o is licensed per seat (bound to a single E-Mail address) pricing starts at 93.99 Euros for a single license, graduated price bundles are available. Software maintenance is available from one up to five years and may also be ordered online. Specialised dealers are welcome.

Background Information:

GnuPG (GNU Privacy Guard) – Open Source Encryption Made in Germany

Like PGP (Pretty Good Privacy), GnuPG is an encryption software, implementing the Specifications for Pretty Good Privacy (OpenPGP) according to RFC 4880 of the Internet standard setting body IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force).

Like PGP, GnuPG uses a hybrid encryption process to this end consisting of the transfer of a public key for encryption and of a private key for decryption. For encryption a whole series of symmetrical crypto-algorithms is combined with two asymmetrical public key crypto-algorithms. Besides the message encryption GnuPG is also used for the encryption of files which are for example locally stored on the own hard disk.
