TRIPOLI, Lebanon--()--Orta Blu, the sustainability division of Orta, delivered 2,400 denim garments to Syrian refugee children near the Syrian-Lebanese border as a part of the Blu Gene initiative in partnership with UNICEF.

Because of political unrest, Syrians are fleeing across the border into Lebanon at an alarming rate. Many of the children who make it across do so without any adults to care for them. UNHCR and UNICEF are working diligently to set up shelters for the refugees and allowed us to make the delivery as many of the children arrive with just the clothes on their backs.

The delivery was not exclusive to Syrian children to avoid singling them out and because the Lebanese children in the region are also impoverished.

Blu Genes are jeans, and other denim garments, produced in collaboration with fashion designers for charitable donations. In this case, the garments were designed by Bonnie Young a well known children's fashion designer.

Orta Blu is the Sustainability Division of Orta, one of the world's largest denim manufacturers based in Istanbul, Turkey. Orta Blu aims to identify and address global humanitarian issues at the community level by leveraging environmentally sustainable technology solutions.
