Cisco’s Russell Smoak to Lead Trade Group Focused on Coordinated Security Incident Response Practices

RSA Conference 2012

WAKEFIELD, Mass.--()--The Industry Consortium for Advancement of Security on the Internet (ICASI), the foremost trade association for coordinated response to multi-product, information technology (IT) security incidents, today announced that Russell Smoak of Cisco Systems has been named by the group’s Board of Directors as the organization’s new president.

Smoak succeeds Linda Betz, formerly of IBM and now the chief information security officer (CISO) of Travelers, who served as the group’s inaugural president for three-and-a-half years. IBM has named Alan Mitchell, senior manager, computer security incident response team (CSIRT), as Betz’s replacement on the ICASI Board.

“I am honored to follow Linda as the next president of ICASI,” said Smoak. “Linda has played an important role in the consortium from the beginning and throughout the organization’s evolution. We all greatly appreciate her level-headed strategic leadership, and sincerely thank her for all her contributions and accomplishments.”

A 15-year veteran of Cisco, Smoak is director and general manager of Security Research and Operations at the company where he is responsible for multiple security programs focused on product vulnerability disclosure, intrusion prevention system signature development, as well as security vulnerability research. Earlier, Smoak successfully served in several engineering, customer advocacy, and sales positions at the firm.
