NuGEN® Technologies Sample Preparation Solutions Selected by Rutgers University Cell and DNA Repository for Large Scale Alcoholism Study

~Novel NGS Library Solutions and Whole Genome Amplification Provide Solutions for Saliva Samples~

SAN CARLOS, Calif. & PISCATAWAY, N.J.--()--NuGEN Technologies Inc., a market leader in the development of sample preparation solutions for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and Genomic Profiling applications, today announced that its Encore® NGS Library Systems and Ovation® WGA Amplification Systems will be used for genetic analysis of saliva samples in a large scale, multi-year study by Rutgers University Cell and DNA Repository (RUCDR).

RUCDR recently received a $10 million grant from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) to fund collection and analysis efforts for more than 46,000 saliva samples from individuals across the United States. The focus of the study is to explore genetic and environmental factors that lead to alcoholism.

“Our laboratory has found NuGEN’s sample preparation solutions to be robust and reliable. A key benefit of the offerings from NuGEN is the seamless workflow, for both high quality and limiting samples, which provides access to a range of samples regardless of quantity and varying levels of integrity. The ability to standardize our processes for a large-scale study improves productivity as well as data quality,” stated Dr. Andrew Brooks, chief operating officer and director of technology at RUCDR. “In addition, NuGEN offers a completely automated solution including the Mondrian™ SP System for NGS library construction which results in increased efficiency and reproducibility.”

“NuGEN is pleased that RUCDR has selected our innovative solutions for this important initiative,” said Alan Dance, vice president of marketing at NuGEN. “This study will result in a better understanding of the risks associated with alcoholism and lead to more effective programs for prevention. As genomic analysis platforms evolve, it is critical that upstream sample preparation technologies also evolve to eliminate workflow bottlenecks and enable discovery with a wide range of samples. Our kits for NGS library construction and the Mondrian™ SP System are cutting-edge technologies that support breakthrough research and result in improved medical care.”
