HydroCision Announces the Launch of its New Patient Website: WashAwayBackPain.Com

A site dedicated to educating patients about back pain and a new minimally invasive, out-patient procedure for herniated disc treatment

NORTH BILLERICA, Mass.--()--HydroCision Inc., a privately held medical device company, today announced the launch of its new patient website dedicated to educating patients about back pain and its novel out-patient procedure for herniated disc treatment called Hydrodiscectomy.

It has been estimated that more than 60 million people worldwide experience chronic lower back pain, which is often caused by herniated or ‘bulging’ spinal discs, a leading cause of disability among Americans less than 45 years of age. WashAwayBackPain.Com represents a new dedicated resource for patients to refer to in order to learn more about back anatomy, causes of back pain, and techniques for managing it. The site is also dedicated to educating patients about Hydrodiscectomy as an alternative to open surgery once conservative care measures fail and patients are faced with evaluating their surgical options.

“In these uncertain economic times, we’ve discovered that many patients are pro-actively seeking information about procedures that minimize recovery time allowing them to get back to work as quickly as possible,” commented Howard Donnelly, CEO of HydroCision. “We therefore believe it is important to directly educate patients about the fact that they have proven alternatives to open spine surgery when clinically indicated.”

HydroCision’s Hydrodiscectomy procedure uses a high velocity water jet to quickly and effectively decompress herniated discs without the collateral thermal or mechanical trauma associated with other surgical modalities. This minimally invasive procedure can be performed through a needle-sized cannula thereby minimizing patient post-operative pain and recovery time. Patients undergo local instead of general anesthesia in an out-patient setting and are able to return home the same day with no more than a Band-Aid® on their back.

In addition to providing general information about various back conditions, the web site also includes Hydrodiscectomy procedure animation, recent clinical studies, patient testimonials, as well as a physician locator that will allow patients to find physicians in their area who have been trained on the Hydrodiscectomy technique.
