Sourcefire to Extend Intrusion Prevention to Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Platform

COLUMBIA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sourcefire, Inc. (Nasdaq: FIRE), the creator of Snort® and a leader in intelligent cybersecurity solutions, today announced plans to add support for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization to Sourcefire’s enterprise IPS portfolio. Sourcefire also announced it has joined the Open Virtualization Alliance (OVA), further extending the company’s strategy to deliver heterogeneous hypervisor support to customers.

The OVA is an organization founded by Red Hat, IBM, HP and Intel to foster the adoption of the open source Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) hypervisor, upon which Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization is based.

Sourcefire Virtual 3D Sensor™ (Virtual Sensor) and Sourcefire Virtual Defense Center™ (Virtual Defense Center) support at least three leading virtual environments, including Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, Xen and VMware. Sourcefire’s support for heterogeneous environments provides added flexibility to enterprises and cloud computing companies that rely on virtualization platforms for a range of applications, including at remote sites where physical resources may be limited, or in data centers where little rack space remains.

Customers can deploy the Virtual Defense Center to monitor any combination of up to 25 virtual or physical 3D Sensors. They can also opt to monitor their Virtual 3D Sensors from the same physical Defense Center they use to monitor their physical 3D Sensors.
