Coulomb Technologies Comments on the Passing of California’s AB 631

Precedent-Setting Legislation Sets the Stage for More Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Throughout California

CAMPBELL, Calif.--()--Coulomb Technologies today applauded the passage of California’s AB 631 legislation, signed by Governor Jerry Brown. The bill is sponsored by Assemblywoman Fiona Ma (D-San Francisco and San Mateo Counties) and places into law a decision by the California Public Utilities Commission not to regulate electric vehicle (EV) charging stations as utilities. The passage of AB 631 will accelerate the market acceptance of EVs in California by leveraging the deployment of EV charging infrastructure.

“This key legislation will set an important precedent in the United States that will lead to widespread consumer adoption of electric vehicles. AB 631 removes regulatory barriers to deploying EV infrastructure and supports consumer choice in EV Charging services,” said Pat Romano, president and CEO of Coulomb Technologies. “We congratulate Assemblywoman Ma who led the charge to provide market certainty for the infrastructure that is needed to support California’s EV drivers and to allow EV charging station owners to charge competitively for the EV charging services. The passage means California will continue their economic competitiveness and regulatory leadership to reduce dependency on foreign oil and greenhouse gas emissions, and increase alternative fuel use.”
