CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Backupify (http://www.backupify.com), the leading provider of data protection and management services for cloud-based applications, today released “Google Apps Data Loss: Common Causes & Simple Solutions,” a free research brief that provides IT professionals with practical advice for mitigating data loss concerns as they move to the cloud.
The report is based on research of one hundred data loss and availability incidents reported by Google Apps users within the Google Apps Help Forums. Key findings include:
- 63% of data loss incidents were due to user error (such as deletion)
- 8% were due to hacking
- 3% were due to third-party applications that corrupted data within Google Apps
- 100% of incidents were beyond Google’s control
While the findings support the reliability of Google Apps—all incidents of data loss were found to be beyond Google’s control—the data also illustrates that traditional IT concerns, such as user error, weak passwords and hacking, still exist in the cloud. The report also outlines data protection best practices, including deployment of Google Apps Backup solutions, to follow to minimize these data loss vulnerabilities.
