Taiwan’s NCKU 67th in Global Webometrics Ranking

TAINAN, Taiwan--()--Taiwan-based National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) ranks the 67th in the world and the 4th in Asia, according to the latest Webometrics Ranking of World Universities published in July, 2011.

The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is published by Cybermetrics Lab, a research group under the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) located in Madrid, Spain. The ranking started in 2004 and is updated every January and July.

The Webometrics Ranking measures the volume, visibility and impact of the web pages published by universities.

Since 2008, NCKU has optimized its website by providing both English and Chinese contents that are easily searched using specific keywords and are readily accessible to international users.

NCKU was ranked the 80th in the world in January, 2011, entering the top 100 universities for the first time, and moved up 13 notches to the 67th in July, 2011. It also maintained its position in Asia, surpassing University of Hong Kong and Peking University, but was behind National Taiwan University, University of Tokyo, and Kyoto University.

“The advancement in ranking shows that the higher education in NCKU is approaching global standards,” said NCKU Executive Vice President Hong-Sen Yan.
