TOKU-E Announces Ultra-High Purity and Single Composition EvoPure™ Antimicrobials for Research and Manufacturing Applications

BELLINGHAM, Wash.--()--TOKU-E Company (www.toku-e.com) has announced availability of their innovative ultra-high purity, single composition EvoPure line of antibiotics. Whether used for gene transfection and selection experiments, or in new drug discovery from old antibiotics, EvoPure antibiotics provide researchers more consistent and rapid results.

According to a recent purity survey, several batches of commercially available hygromycin B obtained from multinational life science reagent companies showed that the purities ranged anywhere from an alarming 60% to a high of 92%. Additionally, lower-purity batches of hygromycin B not only contain higher levels of less active ingredients (demethyl-hygromycin B), but also contain impurities which are highly toxic to cells lines. Different batches of hygromycin B contain varying levels of toxic impurities which inadvertently lead to inconsistencies in gene selection experiments and sometimes even loss of precious cell lines.

During fermentation processes, bacteria almost exclusively produce a mixture of antibiotics. For example, kanamycin is a mixture of kanamycin A, B and C isomers. Kanamycin has been used for vaccine production and it is well known that kanamycin A, B and C have structure related toxicities to the cell lines. Due to more amine groups kanamycin B carries higher toxicities, while pure kanamycin A will produce more consistent and lower toxicity vaccine quality.

Company President Q Pan says, "The idea of making ultra high purity antibiotics for researchers stems from our own research needs. We ourselves were frustrated by inconsistent hygromycin B selection results. Later on, one of our teams found that a few batches of hygromycin B purchased from reagent companies was nothing more than animal-feed supply hygromycin B. After in-house purification we found the results to be much more consistent. Currently, our researchers exclusively use EvoPure grade reagents such as: G418, bleomycin and vancomycin for cell culture media experiments.”

After in-house fermentation and before shipment, each batch of EvoPure line products is stringently tested by HPLC for 99.5% or higher active ingredient content. EvoPure technologies are being applied to an increasing number of chemical reagents; current EvoPure solutions include: G418-EvoPure (www.g418-evopure.com), hygromycin-EvoPure (www.hygromycin-evopure.com), and kanamycin-EvoPure (www.kanamycin-evopure.com).

TOKU-E specializes in the manufacturing of ultra-pure antimicrobials and fine chemicals for use in life science research. The broad range of antimicrobials produced are primarily designed for gene selection, cell culture, microbiology, anti-mycoplasma, diagnostic applications.
