Ken Phelan Joins RBS Americas as Chief Risk Officer

STAMFORD, CT--()--Ellen Alemany, Head of RBS Americas, today announced the appointment of Ken Phelan as Chief Risk Officer (CRO). Ken will manage the enterprise-wide risk function overseeing all risk activities in the region, with leadership responsibility for key operational, supervisory and governance matters.

Ken replaces Jay Cook, the previous CRO for RBS Americas, who has been appointed to a new global role at the RBS Group level.

Phelan brings more than 25 years of experience in banking and enterprise risk management, having served most recently as CRO for Fannie Mae. Prior experience includes his role as CRO for Wachovia Corporation and senior risk leadership roles at JPMorgan Chase & Co. and UBS Warburg. His background also includes experience as the Head of Capital Markets, Asset Backed Securities and other roles in sales and trading at Credit Suisse First Boston.

Phelan will be based in Stamford, Conn., reporting jointly to Alemany and David Stephen, RBS Deputy Group Risk Officer.

He holds a JD from Villanova University School of Law, an MS in Economics from Trinity College and a BA in Business Administration from Old Dominion University.
