HMSHost and Coca-Cola Launch Summer Travel Sweepstakes to Benefit FEEDING AMERICA®

Proceeds from sales of Coca-Cola at more than 100 HMSHost travel venues will support charity’s hunger relief efforts

BETHESDA, Md.--()--The peak days of summer travel have arrived. HMSHost and Coca-Cola have the answer for thirsty travelers who might wish for something extra with their ice cold refreshment: a chance to win a grand prize vacation including hotel accommodations to one of three destinations: Orlando, Fla.; Palm Springs, Calif., or Chicago, Ill. The destination is the winner’s choice.

HMSHost and Coca-Cola created this summer sweepstakes promotion to spotlight one of the country’s most pressing needs: hunger relief. At the end of the sweepstakes promotion, HMSHost will donate a portion of sales proceeds to Feeding America, the nation’s leading domestic hunger relief charity. Each dollar HMSHost donates to Feeding America will help secure seven meals on behalf of local food banks.

HMSHost’s relationship with Feeding America spans this promotion as well as specific food donation and fundraising programs in several of its airport and motorway locations, including Tampa International Airport, Charlotte International Airport and on the Maryland and Delaware Turnpikes.

At Tampa International, HMSHost’s donation program began in the fall of 2010. More than 2,100 pounds of food are collected weekly and distributed to the local Feeding America food banks in Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties. Charlotte International launched its donation program in March 2011 and in three months has contributed more than 15,000 pounds of food to Second Harvest Food of Metrolina. At HMSHost’s three travel plazas—Maryland House, Chesapeake House, and Delaware Welcome Center—an ongoing fundraising campaign of providing canisters to collect spare change from travelers has raised more than $118,500 in the past year for local food banks.

From now through September 15th, HMSHost’s customers can use the free Microsoft Tag Reader on their smartphone to scan the Microsoft Tag found on 32 oz. cups of Coca-Cola at any of HMSHost’s airport, motorway or mall food court locations. The Tag then takes the customer to a web page where he/she enters contact information. The promotion is also available in HMSHost’s retail locations (newsstands and convenience stores) where in-store posters feature the Tag. If travelers choose to enter via text message, they can text the word “TRAVEL” to 733774.

Coca-Cola products are sold in HMSHost’s airport and travel plaza restaurants and in the company’s retail newsstands and convenience stores. In addition, Coca-Cola products are sold in HMSHost’s mall food court operations.
